Appoint Percy Attacking the Country Cups

Feb 28, 2019

Pepper Racing had a lot to think about after APPOINT PERCY failed to fire at Gosford in a BM70 (1600m) with Jay Ford scratching his head about his performance. He was out of form and the team had to get him refocussed in hope of finding that edge that saw him win at Randwick and compete competitively in town.

Luke has a real love for the Sir Percy gelding and decided to get him back to Canberra and find that much needed confidence building run. After a solid 3rd on the home surface Appoint Percy went back to back at Canberra taking out the Tab Federal before embarking on a Country Cups campaign over the summer. Consistency has always been this gelding’s biggest asset and after finishing a close second in the Mudgee Cup, a tight third in the Moruya Cup he headed to the Sapphire Coast looking to get the win and reward for his patient and adoring connections. The Bega Cup is run over the mile and Courtney Gravener got him into a nice rhythm before lighting him up upon straightening. He set up a commanding break and as the challengers came for him the tenacity shone through as he was able to score and get the win.

Appoint Percy now has his sights firmly on the prestigious Canberra Cup held in the Autumn. The Canberra Cup prelude has him again fighting out the finish and the evergreen 7YO is looking to give the 2019 edition a real shake.
